Wisconsin is making national news with it's budget battle as Democrats skip town in protest:

See, our new Republican governor is trying to slash benefits and salaries for state employees and effectively dissolving the collective bargaining rights for state employees. Republicans won big majorities in both houses of the state legislature last year so Governor Walker's budget 'rescue' would pass easily.

So in order to stop this craziness, the Democrats in the state Senate literally left the state, preventing a quorum for a vote. They have exiled themselves in Illinois tonight. This prevents the Governor from ordering the state patrol to force the Dems back to the capitol building.

The teachers union is all over this one. School districts were closed in places today as thousands of teachers joined other state employees in huge protests.

Like all states, it's true we've got budget problems. But our butthead governor is using this as an excuse to bust unions. If he gets his way with public employees, you can bet he's coming after other unions as well. Classic Republicanism: pin the burden on the working man and mock him for fighting for a living wage.
