Today in the Western United States there will be an eclipse of the sun. Not a total eclipse but still an eclipse.

As seen from Los Angeles, here is some information from Griffith Observatory:

However, wherever you happen to be there will be photos and videos all over the net later today.

Picture of the little crescents in the shadows of leaves on the car, easily seen on the passenger seat. I took this picture a bit after to solar maximum.

**Time for a bump** :)

Here is a pic of the National Mall, Washington, D.C., taken from the International Space Station today, 1-20-13, the day before President Obama will be inaugurated for his second term.

Visible is Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, The White House, etc.

Looks like construction is progressing nicely on I-295 at the Anacosta River (lower right, wide bridge). The new northbound -> westbound flyover at the Southeast Freeway looks done. (Just north of that bridge, it's a white, left hand curve.)

Hey everyone, check the evening sky starting tomorrow for this comet:
"C/2012 L4" better known as "Pan-STARRS"

Look to the west just to the left of where the sun sets right after sundown. Get away from large cities and hazy skies if you can. In the northern hemisphere, the further south you are, the better the view.
Pan-STARRS will be at its brightest Monday and Tuesday.
