Yuk :stanpuke: :parishilton:

A concern people (including me) are having is the amount of radiation these machines emit. I mean we've all been to the doctor, had some x-rays, and especially at the dentist. My dentist says he's getting a new digital machine that will show her on a monitor the same info she get's now on x-ray film.

So with all the radiation in our bodies from medical sources, I think flying is adding too much. But after hearing stories such as what angeldeb82 posted, and similar stories in the news about other gropings, and watching that SNL link above, I have decided to just go through the scanner on my trip next month and hope for the best about the radiation levels. I hope the machine I go through is calibrated correctly and won't emit too much radiation.

Why can't these machines, five years in development at hugh tax payer's expense be similar to the technology my dentist talked about?

I'm not worried about them seeing me via xray; it's the radiation hitting my body I'm concerned about in my future health. Only time will tell.

Are you sure that happened? Because I find that really hard to believe.

There are times when people would rather not post the link to a story, but since you asked... the unidentified TSA agent spent “an inordinate amount of time groping”

A TSA spokesperson declined to comment on this specific case, but said that anyone ejaculating during a pat-down would be subject to arrest.

...I soooo want to post a horribly inappropriate, un-seeable, and possibly ban-worth photo I've stumbled across lately in this thread, but I just won't.
Let's just say... it's someone's bottom being, uh... "checked"... up to the elbow. :stanpuke: :cartmanlaugh:
Oh well. Idk how I managed to see it in the first place, and I don't think I could find it again anyway.

I'll post a link later, but what I heard on the car radio from ABC news is that an anti-gay group out of Virginia is saying that because the TSA has a no discriminating policy against hiring gays, that practicing gays are picking out same sex passengers to grope for the pleasure of the gay TSA agent.

I don't believe what that Virginia group is saying. If true, the next time a same sex doctor (same sex as you) gives you a physical, must you also think they want you naked for their pleasure because your doctor might be gay? Ridiculous.

I'll search for the link later. Again, this was heard by me on the radio in the car.

Edit: Here's the link: http://www.rgj.com/article/20101130/NEW ... 017/news11

Here's a quote from that link:

Quote:
A widely distributed e-mail written by Delgaudio for the Public Advocate about TSA, claims the pat downs are part of a "Homosexual Agenda." And he criticizes TSA's non-discrimination hiring policy.

Homosexual Agenda?

I have a tough time believing large numbers of people are actually at significant risk from radiation via airport x-ray machines. This isn't the 1920's. We know a lot about radiation, its effects and its prevalence in the modern and natural world. I seriously doubt any of us are in any danger unless we decide to camp out inside one of these machines for a couple weeks.

There's a lot of bad information out there from people scare mongering about tiny amounts of radiation without any good science to back them up. Cell phones, wifi, power lines, CRT televisions; you name it. If it uses electricity, there's some ar-tard on the internet who thinks it'll give 'em cancer. Just being outside exposes most humans to more significant radiation sources than any of that crap.

I would suggest that we have a lot of experience safely handling x-rays in this civilization and as long as people are trained properly and the devices are maintained, we'll be fine, just fine. Doesn't change the fact that the new machines are a gigantic waste of money and time and an invasion of privacy for the sake of theater and the illusion of safety.

Yeah, that "story" surprisingly cracked me up.

In other "Dead Serious News" tonight:

WikiLeaks to release Percy Cummings arrest documents

Osama bin Laden offers refuge to Julian Assange

And for the dessert:
Al Qaeda developing suppository explosive device

Enjoy their Cummings all over the place.

Well, many of you know that I was in Florida last week. So I had to go to two airports: LAX in Los Angeles and MCO (Orlando). By the way, anyone know why Orlando's airport code is MCO? I don't have any idea what MCO stands for. The "O" might be for Orlando, but MCO?

Anyway, at both airports, it was like a few years ago when I flew. Put everything in a tray to go into an X-Ray machine including your shoes, and walk though a metal detector. There were no X-Rays were you stand with your arms up where the operator of the machine can see you naked through your clothes. It was just like the old days at both airports.

And no groping either. Just walk through the metal detector and your done.

One exception: At Orlando, one member of our party was randomly picked for extra screening. He was taken aside, and the TSA agent put some kind of solution on the palm of his hand. Perhaps to look for explosive residue? I really don't know what the solution was, but he passed the test and was allowed to rejoin our group. And still there was no see-through X-Rays, and no gropings. So I don't know what all this grouping is about. I looked at other passengers, and no one that I saw was taken to a special room to be groped, and no one was X-Rayed where their private parts could be seen.

Oh dammit. I used to know all that stuff, having worked in a mail room and all. In the meantime I've forgotten it all.

Orlando International Airport was built on the site of McCoy Air Force Base in the 1970s, I think.

Thanks Niels and Bug. That makes sense: McCoy Air Force Base from the 1970s as Disneyworld first opened in 1971. Thanks, guys :D
