Cold and a bit windy

Hot like lava. HOT LAVA!!! Well, for December anyway.
It's 85, clear, and slightly breezy.

It's snowing here.

I know! We broke a record with that one. Previous was 83 degrees, recorded in 1957.

Right now, it's in the upper 50's and pt. cloudy.

Bit cold and clear, last I checked. The clouds cleared up some during the afternoon.

But I hear another front's coming, with the possibility of light snow...Hoping they're wrong, though...

A Norther is coming through hard. Super high-winds, and cold, cold temps. We're in the 40's, and the temp's falling.

Mornings are really cold, around - 8C (17F), afternoons around 0 (32). Partly cloudy, possibility of more snow (we already have a foot of it).

Overcast and upper 20's. Supposed to get some snow tomorrow. Winter sports enthusiasts (like me) definitely want more. Actually I just want a little thicker ice on the lakes so I can ice fish with confidence. Tested the auger on a small lake the other day and while there was plenty to support a man, it still gives you the occasional, thundering crack that spooks the hell out of you.

Snow isn't the greatest thing for building thick ice. It acts as an insulating blanket and slows the growth of ice thickness. And if you get enough snow on the ice, its weight pushes down so that when you drill a hole, water flows out on the ice surface, turning that snow into sloppy slush. Waterproof boots are a must. Wet feet don't mix well with sitting out in the cold. Then that slushy snow will freeze from the top down creating a layer of ice over a thin sheet of water on top of the main ice. This creates a situation where you will bust through that top layer and have a microsecond of panic because you think you're going all the way down. It gets you every time. It could be mid January and you know for a fact that there's 18 inches of ice out there, but crack through that crusty first layer, and it still startles you.

Ah, winter...

Cool (63), overcast, and drizzly... but this is San Antonio.

Last week was really cold. Temperatures went down to -17C (0F) and even a bit lower, and saturday was very warm (10C (50F)). It's 4C (39F) now, foggy with a bit of drizzle now and then.

Snow all day today. Parts of my state have blizzard warnings. Not me though

You're gonna hate me. It was 75 degrees yesterday. Then a big-ass storm blew through and it dropped 30 degrees over night. It's in the lower 50s now.

Unsettlingly dark for how early it is.
