Hmmm. Who would have thought that common sense and apocalyptic nonsense fit together so neatly. Scientific skepticism FTW! The question is, however, whether the same logic holds true for the events described in the Book of Revelation, for instance? Or does it apply only to the Mayan calendar tripe?

This applies only to the tripe. Revelation doesn't offer exact dates like 12/21/12, so there's no way to debunk it except in regards to past events. Many of the events there can be applied to Israel and to Mary almost 2000 years ago.
