From the Comedy Central Press Release:
Comedy Central's Long-Time Animated Hit "South Park" honored with Prestigious Peabody Award

Irreverent Series Cited For Excellence In “Politically Incorrect Satire”

"South Park," Comedy Central's unique animated series, has been honored with a prestigious George Foster Peabody Award in the 65th Annual Peabody Awards competition, it was announced today. “South Park,” the irreverent animated hit that broke the mold on adult cartoons, burst on the scene in 1997 and immediately became Comedy Central's highest rated show where it remains today, nearly ten years later.
In announcing the winning programs, the Peabody committee cited "South Park” as "Comedy Central's notoriously rude, undeniably fearless lampoon of all that is self-important and hypocritical in American life, regardless of race, creed, color or celebrity status."

Congratulations, Matt and Trey, you deserve it! Your shows are consistently poignant and hilarious to this day. You have frequently made me see other sides to issues that I would normally have never seen the other side of, and I love it every time. For that, I will always have a deep admiration for South Park, it creators, and staff.

God bless you and everything you do.

Thank you.

So I'm probably gonna stand alone here but am I the only one who thinks SP has been sucking as of late? There were a lot of bad episodes last season and now these last 3 episodes this season were TERRIBLE. I can't even remember laughing twice this week (Which I can't say about this weeks Family Guy). Lookin to be me like it may be time to hang up SP and maybe work on more movies.

In response to stealth1820's post:

Yes, you do stand alone.

(By the way, my quote in ShaneHaughey's post below was something I wrote in this post, but I changed it minutes after, thinking that maybe this wasn't the right place to go off on a rant. I really appriciate him quoting it, however, because I stand by it.)

If you don't like it anymore, you don't have to keep watching. I see some of you guys complaining on the boards "Oh, South Park's not as good as it used to be, why can't it go back to the way it used to be, blah blah blah..."

The way I see it, South Park has not gotten worse by any measure over the years, it has just changed a bit from the first few seasons. It has gotten less and less about the fart jokes, and more and more about the satire. They've still got the funny.

I love quoting the last week's episode. Now, everytime I hear someone being extremely uppity and self-rightious, I always think "Yeah, I actually want to be part of the soluuutionnn. Thaaaaaaaaanks."

Even "Cartoon Wars" was a very multi-layered episode that commented on so many things. First the fact that it pisses them off when people compare them to Family Guy, second the Muhammad cartoons. We really don't have to comply to the Muslim religion. They don't think twice about us portraying Jesus. Third, the censoring of free speech by certain groups that get pissed off over criticism (i.e. The Catholic League and Scientology. If you handle criticism by lawsuit or threats, you are screwed up. On Comedy Central's part, burying your head in the sand and pretending it never happened never helps either.)

The content of the "Cartoon Wars" episode over "having episodes pulled" may seem a little self indulgent and petty on their part, but it's not. It's like Cartman says "They start by pulling one or two episodes, then pretty soon the show gets cancelled. That's how they got Lavern and Shirly." The basic point is that if this blatent overcensorship is allowed to continue, this will become a place that I'm not sure I want to live in. This is their way of saying "We will not be silenced!"

I loved the last line... "Will freedom of speech prevail, or will Comedy Central puss out? Find out next week!"

Anyway, my point is that you can think whatever you want about the quality of South Park right now, but I for one think they should keep it up!

Stan: "If you're not going to root for the home team, get out of the stadium."

South Park deserves the Peabody and the Emmy because it has tackled issues, but neither one is awarded for how funny we think it is. Season Ten has been good so far, but Season Nine was not good, though it was still better than about 85% of what is on TV. And, strangely, the argument you use to discredit those who don't like current episodes is the same one fans that don't like them use to discredit those that do!

But, as someone said here before, one problem is how people view the episodes in relation to their topics. Some people know everything there is to possibly know about 1003 and still don't like it because it wasn't that funny. Others just like the story and like it because of that, like I do. Some think that Season Nine was a bit different.

1- Many think that while they talked about important issues, they also forced jokes. Forced jokes suck!
2- Often, the episodes had major plot holes.
3- many just thought it wasn't that funny.
And that is what I thought of Season Nine.

Season Ten has been much, much better so far.

"Job Well Down Trey 'N' Matt and South Park!"

No other show deserves the "Peabody Award." For the past ten years no other show that has broken the boundraie for adult animated cartoons. Trey 'N' Matt and everyone at South Park, I tip my hat to you; what was not possible, you have made into a reality!

Congrats Trey 'N' Matt and South Park!! :D

Well, I agree about Season Nine; it was bad. I disagree about Season Ten though. As for you wanting it to end.....well....we've got at least 12 seasons, so....enjoy?
